Kildar
by John Ringo

The Sequel to Ghost—Kildar

Ex-Seal Mike Harmon has bought the farm—literally, in Eastern Europe. But trouble follows him even there, and the man who has made himself anathema to terrorists from Syria to Paris suddenly has Chechen terrorists banging on his own door.

Praise for Ghost:

"It's refreshing to find a successful popular writer who's not afraid to try something different, and the adventurous reader will find Ringo's latest insightful, exciting, and outrageously funny."—Publishers Weekly

He is known for his SyFy books, so he gets categorized that way. If they could cross categorize these they probably would. Reminds me a lot of the Mack Bolan books and Punisher comics I read in college. This one was not as risque as some of his others, and frankly I figured that Romance novels are for women's fantasies, and this kind of stuff is for guys fantasies. Who else would dream of having a hareem of teenage girls. At least he has some standards.

If Ringo'd spent less effort writing in the wank-fodder for pubescent boys, the book might have reached its potential. As it is, I should have learned my lesson with _Ghost_ and spent my money elsewhere.

The beginning of one the best sci-fi series available. Harmons kickass attitude is just the right antidote to the p c poison thats pervasive throughout the literary fields. Only in sci-fi can a character like this survive and even thrive. Hail to John Ringo for flipping off the average and normal. More KILDAR!!!

Entertaining. Very much a product of the time in which it was written too (First term of Bush JR.). Very fanciful and outright unrealistic but, ... entertaining. Ringo knows how to seize your attention and keep you reading and this book is no different. Just don't take your history lessons from this book and don't treat it as anything but entertainment. The argument that the Varangian guards contained enough Irishmen in it to've impacted a fictitious tribe of descendants so much more than the Saxons and Vikings that made up their overwhelming majority particularly stuck in my craw as a history buff and as a linguistic enthusiast but, hey, it's fiction. Just remember that.

These _Ghost_ books are pretty nasty. Ringo basically justifies whatever abberant sexual practices he wants (bondage, rape, violence, S&M) by saying some people enjoy them. *shiver* Oh, and the plots are WEAK. _Ghost_ was basically no plot other than as a frame for all the sex and violence, this one isn't much better. a little less sex, but not much.

Not really Sci-Fi but lots of fun. I like all of Ringo's books. The main character is a cross between Rambo and Larry Flint. Lots of violence and sex. Where could you really find naked women, the best beer in the world, and a small war around every corner?

7. David on 9/23/2007, said:

This is a great read especially if your tired of all the weak kneed politicians and their posturing of the real world. The main character sees a problem and addresses it like a man. The sexual appetites of the main character have to be taken tongue in cheek but I see how it makes the character what he is. If you don't want to read about a can do hero with a can do attitude stand clear of this one. If you read for entertainment and you love a great page turner grab this one its pretty good.

A throughly dislikable lead character with an unrealistically characterized supporting cast: Avoid this book.
